PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: CIVIC LEADERSHIP

One of the main aims of the trip, is to expose the group to the workings of government. Seeing first-hand how a democracy works helps them to understand that participation in government is open to everyone. The British system although different, does share many of the same principles as the US system. Understanding the history behind an institution and the reasons people become involved in civic work, brings the group in contact with the values of leadership and of taking initiative.
The Spirit of Youth teens met with the Lord Mayor of Sheffield to learn about the history and significance of the city.
